Is there anything in this big world which is better than sex and drugs? We live in a society where most people think that there is nothing better than sex and drugs. This is not true.
We seek happiness in our life. It is an emotional state ranging from contentment to intense joy. Many people find pleasure using drugs and many others find happiness from sex. But there is something that really gives you more satisfaction and it is better than everything else in this world.
The author of ‘Happiness Beyond Thought’ Gary Weber PhD once conducted a study among his colleagues and the participants included: psychedelic users, experienced meditators and the people who have had sex. He created a survey to rank the pleasure experience in these different states and the results are shocking. The psychedelics got more ranking than the sexual orgasm but there is another state which is better than sex and psychedelic experience. This mysterious category is called a Non Dual state and compared to drugs and psychedelics, the non-dual state ranked higher for pleasure.
What is Non Dual state?
The nondualism also called as non-duality primarily refers to a mature state of consciousness and it means “not two” or “one undivided without a second”. It usually follows prolonged preparation through ascetic or meditative practice. Well interestingly enough, it is found in every religious tradition of earth and you’ve probably experienced it without even knowing it.
Eastern tradition calls the practice ‘Advaita Vedanta’, the Buddhist call it ‘No self‘, Christians call it ‘Christ consciousness‘ and the Hindus call it ‘Krishna consciousness‘. Somehow it is to see the world without judgment or projection. It is not a belief, it is actually the abandonment of all beliefs and the pure awareness that exists beyond thought. At that moment you will be totally void of mental noise and projections.
It is the ability to see without any personal “I” present and pure undivided space of awareness. There have been many books written on this, everything from Eckhart Tolle’s “The power of Now” and Ram Dass’s “Be Here Now”.
You can find this uncaused joy when you stop searching for happiness in the world and in the mind and start searching it in the “now”. It is the journey from “here to here”.
