Sex is an enjoyable activity which has gained popularity amongst all age groups in the last few decades. It not only helps the species to survive but also is a way to get relief. While you can’t deny the need for physical affinity with your partner, you also can’t deny the need for safe sex practices. More often than not, the STDs (Sexually transmitted diseases) are growing rapidly in society. More so because people are often involved with more than one sexual partner. It is known that Condom is the only contraceptive method which also prevents the user from getting STD. But still, there are a few per cent chances that due to some mishappening the condom might fail to work. Therefore it becomes ever more Essential to practice the safest sex.
Pertaining to this, three Teenage boys from Issac Newton’s Academy in England have come up with a revolutionary idea to create a condom that changes colour when detecting STD. This invention got the first prize at the 2015s U.Ks Teen Tech awards. Because of this many condom manufacturers have already approached them.
According to the Washington Post,
“There would be antibodies on the condom that would interact with the antigens of STDs, causing the condom to change colours depending on the disease. For instance, if the condom were exposed to chlamydia, it might glow green — or yellow for herpes, purple for human papillomavirus and blue for syphilis.”
Although there still are questions which needed to be answered like –
- Would the condom be able to detect STDs on both the user and the partner?
- What would happen if the condom detected more than one STD?
- What happens after you detect an STD?
- What if the party involved is colour blind?
Therefore it can be said that this creation us a great initiative led by the three young and talented minds which still has a lot of concerns which needs to be answered. Needless to say, after this wonderful approach they will definitely come up with the necessary answers very soon!
