Telegram appears to have had a fabulous Wednesday at the expense of Facebook. As Facebook and its chat apps were caught up in an outage which had broke globally due to which Telegram has reportedly added more than three million users in just 24 hours. This UK-based messaging app already brags of over 200 million monthly active users.
Pavel Durov, Telegram's CEO, announced this new user numbers on his personal Telegram channel. However, he did not offer a reason as to why Telegram suddenly saw this kind of spur in the number of new users.
“I see 3 million new users signed up for Telegram within the last 24 hours,” wrote Durov. “Good. We have true privacy and unlimited space for everyone.”
Telegram is free to use encrypted messaging service just like WhatsApp. Telegram offers end-to-end encryption for voice calls and also end-to-end encryption for “secret” chats as an option. Not every chat are encrypted end-to-end by default on Telegram, unlike WhatsApp.
