Stand up comedy in India began with Hindi shows by performers like Johnny lever and Raju shrivastavJohnnyreafter the comedy scene grew and many new faces like Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover, Bharti Singh and many more.
Whereas in English stand up comedy the only two names were Cyrus Broacha and Vir Das.
Kapil Sharma has his own show on television and has had his share of controversies which has driven many viewers away from his show.
The problem with performing comedy on television is you can’t go all out on jokes it’s more family oriented so it’s more like Sardar ki jokes and funny words. Vir Das has propelled stand up comedy to another level. He says you can’t do comedy without having someone feeling insulted or take offence to it. He grew with his YouTube clips in which he quite brilliantly takes social topics and adult jokes and making humorous than ever. With which many more new comedians came up doing stand up comedy sharing their shows on YouTube.
YouTube has been a platform for many of them after which the most successful of them have been offered their own NETFLIX shows. Kenny Sebastian is also a big name his last special on YouTube mocks the political beliefs in India and how he is scared to jokes on socio-political issues.
