Fake news has become a pandemic problem in India and this year being an election year, fake information or fake news could lead to breaking of a political party’s fortune. Also, a majority part of fake news is transmitted by images on WhatsApp.

The Facebook-owned messaging app is quite conscious of such issues propping up. Which is why WhatsApp will shortly let users authenticate the source of an image which they have sent or received from other users through a web search.

WhatsApp will be using certain Google APIs to find images that are similar on the web this will help users to properly validate before they come to a proper conclusion.

Once you’ve uploaded the image from WhatsApp to Google, the messaging app will show you the search results by opening it on your browser.

This feature will certainly create a big impact in countries like India, where WhatsApp has more than 200 million active users.
