Who has not admired Michelangelo’s works? He was one of the greatest artist of all time who devoted his life to the creation of magnificent artworks. He lived a long and productive life and was successful in influencing almost all countries. He was born in Caprese near Florence, Italy on March 6, 1475. He dad was a judge and believed his son would have heavenly powers and this was the reason to name him Michelangelo. Angelo in Italian means
Michelangelo showed interests in art and sketched and painted day and night. His family was not satisfied because they considered art a low occupation. Michelangelo was determined and nothing stopped him. In 1488 his family agreed to let him study with Domenico a famous painter. He learned to paint frescoes there. By the age of 13, he was highly skilled. At the of 16 his master sent him to study sculpture. The ruling prince Lorenzo was impressed by Michelangelo’s skills and gave him the privileges of a son.
At the age of 26, Michelangelo began a statue that amazed all his critics. The sculpture was carved to David. He was commissioned to do more works. At the age of 30, he was chosen to design the largest tomb – The Pieta. It took 40 years to finish the yom. 24 years later he bagan the Last Judgement on the Altar wall of Sistine Chapel. He lived till 89,working steadily until his death in Rome on Feb 18, 1564.
