The Karnataka govt bans Ola Cabs for 6 months on March 22 stating that the company was running illegal bike taxi services without any permission.
The state department said that Ola, despite getting continuous warnings and notifications did not stop the bike taxi services and continued to violate the law. It has been decided by the judicial system that the Ola company have to pay a penalty (the amount is not yet decided) to resume the services in Karnataka again.
“As Ani Technologies Pvt. Ltd. [Ola Cabs], Bangalore, has violated the Karnataka On-demand Transport Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016, and in the backdrop of the report submitted by the Deputy Transport Commissioner and senior Regional Transport Officer, Bangalore [South], the aggregator licence issued to it till June 19, 2021 has been suspended for 6 months under the rules,” the order on March 18 said.
It was so said that the license ola cabs have was for only app bases taxi service and not for the bike taxi service.
The Cheif minister of the state wants the order that states that Ola company’s licence will be cancelled, to be revoked.
The Ola company have to pay a penalty to resume its services in Karnataka again. The amount of the penalty has not been decided yet. Although the state department said that they usually charge ₹150,0000 per offence but since Ola have violated so many laws, it is not possible for the department to reveal the amount. The authorities will have to look into the matter more deeply and will seek legal advice on the same before finally disclosing the penalty amount.
“I cannot decide (the penalty) on my own” said the transport Commissioner VP Ikkert.
Ola cab is one of the most popular cab service company which probably everyone have been using these days.
