Social media is covered with Hanan’s pictures. She is a chemistry student aspiring to become a doctor at Al Azhar college. She lives in Madavana in a rented house. She rises early morning does her daily chores, studying and reaches in time for college.
When her classmates and friends stay back after class for tea talk and gossip she is at thammana junction setting up her fish stall . Usually takes her an hour or more to sell the fish , after which she has to rush back home to handle the house.
She has previously done other odd jobs like working in a call center and selling fish , so on .
Her parents separated and she is the glue that holds the family . She sends money for her mother in Thrissur and takes care of her little brother who is in 12th. She herself hasn’t completed 12th due to her financial condition and having to undergo a surgery due to poor hearing. The commitment is beyond anything I can put in words. Let’s just say she does enough to put food on the plate for everyone in her house, pay the rent, her and her brother’s education fee.
When I look at myself and my sister boy o boy! How spoilt am I . Crying for an iPhone. Having a cupboard full of clothes and saying I have nothing to wear with the excuse of its being just girl things. Hanan you not just made me rethink my take on life. You are a true iron woman, you quite literally are a D.O.E.R!
I just hope kids like me and spoilt kids like me be inspired by you and set an example for the girls to talk but don’t walk the walk , you definitely walk the walk. I also hope you get the support to continue your studies, and God bless you with good health we need you to be a doctor than you want to.
