Facebook is planning to pull the strings off on some of its Windows Phone applications on April 30. As confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson, Facebook will very soon be ending support for its popular Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger applications for Windows Phone by the end of this month, leaving the users of Windows Phone at the mercy of third-party apps and mobile Web versions of these services. WhatsApp as of now only supports Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile versions and is yet to confirm about when it will stop supporting the Windows Phone.
Following the shutdown, the mobile Web versions of the services or third-party apps will be the only way to access these services from Windows Phone or a Windows 10 smartphone.
It is unclear as to how many people are still using Windows Phone popularly known as the Lumia phones, but the number is expected to be unlikely significant.
