A trip to Kochi is incomplete without trying out different cuisines at the famous restaurants. Here’s a list of seven famous places where you can go for a food expedition.
1- SREE Muruga CAFE
The first in the list is for all the beef lovers. Here, a dish is prepared by combining pazhampori and beef fry. Beef is cooked in a thick gravy and is served with onions on the top.
It’s served with banana fritters and banana fry. If you are really a meat or specifically a beef person, you just can’t miss out on this place.
2- Grand Pavillion at the Grand Hotel
This Hotel is there in Kochi from the past 15 years. It’s a four star hotel which is known to serve North Indian and Chinese, which is very normal. However the speciality is the beef fry. You can also order Buttery Flaky Malabar parotta with it. It tastes the best.
3- Quality Bakers
A place which is famous for a bread called Breudher (Broo-dhuh) , a yeasted bread which provides one with the taste of Kochi’s past as a Dutch colony.
Basically it’s an amalgamation of bread and cake. It is provided with the taste of kochi with the addition of toddy, spices and ghee.
The owner, C. V Chandra advices to eat the bread with Mutton Korma.
4- Kayees Rahmatullah Cafe
This restaurant was started by V.K Kayee in 1948 as a tea stall. It gained popularity and hence was expanded to become a restaurant. The owner of this hotel worked for several years in Bombay hotel in Kochi. It’s famous for its biryani. In the morning it serves freshly cooked mutton chops with puttu. Although the restaurant is on Highway, it also serves the sea food.
A place which is famous for snacks. It is known to serves 30 different snacks like Erachi pathiri and Mutta maala etc.
It became famous by selling traditional malabari mappila snacks like Unnakaya and Mutta maala.
6- Fort House Restaurant
If you’re looking for an aesthetic place to eat, then Fort House restaurant is the one for you. You can catch a beautiful sunset over the waterfront while you enjoy a tasty traditional Kerela meal of Kerela classics like appam, spew and prawn mango curry.
It is also known to prepare the sea food in Syrian Christian style. It’s a family run hotel which is located in the Fort House hotel for about 20 years becoming one of the oldest restaurants in Kochi.
7- Kadoloram at Abad plaza
This restaurant is famous for its mutton curry prepared in the Kerela style having a lot of spices and a nice tasty gravy.
This place serves lunch in Buffet style and the buffer includes other traditional dishes as well.
