Imagine an Indian wedding with female priests? Yes, you read it right. The Bengali wedding with female pandits is going viral on the internet . The bride’s family has taken this progressive stand with the support of the groom’s family. The bride’s father even refused to do Kanyadaan of his daughter . Writer Asmita Gosh had shared a picture of the unique wedding along with a caption which revealed that female priests were invited for the wedding. While introducing the bride,her mother’s name was used first. The bride’s father refused to do Kanyadaan and gave a speech saying his daughter was not a property to give away . The tweet went viral and gained almost 4k likes and 918 retweets . Twitteri is impressed with this family’s decision. Some people even find it hard to believe that this has happened in India.

The bride’s father in his speech said that Kanyadaan is a traditional ritual followed by Indian families which symbolises the father giving away his daughter to her husband. The bride’s family had discussed this with the groom’s family months before the marriage. They mutually decided not to do the Kanyadaan. This is indeed a great move and true inspiration for many more to stay away from these traditional rituals.
